New Question Why does the The National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) website and official Congressional transcripts of the Subcommittee Hearing continue to present misinformation about the status of Penn-Mar's ethanol distillery in Franklin County, PA?  In letters dated June 14, 2006, C4aQE brought this mistake to the attention of the witness before the Subcommittee, Colleen Landkamer, and to Matt Chase, Executive Director of NADO.  They did not respond.  The mistake was brought to the direct attention of the Subcommittee members in letters dated July 19, 2006.  Again we have received no response and the misinformation has not been corrected.

"The ethanol plant in the Cumberland Valley Business Park is operating, according to testimony before a U.S. House agriculture subcommittee...

...
"It was misinformation*," said Russ Montgomery, president of the Regional Economic Development District Initiatives of South-central Pennsylvania....

..."It is very disturbing to me that people in responsible positions would attempt to alter reality in order to make the Penn-Mar Ethanol project look more viable than it is, or to justify to Congress that tax money supplied to support the project was well spent," said DeEtta Antoun , director of Citizens for a Quality Environment.... "

From
The National Association of Development Organizations NADO website:

"Alternative Fuel Program: The Regional Economic Development District Initiatives (REDDI) of South Central Pennsylvania, headquartered in Harrisburg, successfully applied for a $45,000 grant from USDA’s Rural Business Enterprise Grant (RBEG) program to complete a feasibility study for the construction of an ethanol facility. From this initial seed funding, REDDI helped form a group of 45 farmers from northern Maryland and south central Pennsylvania into Pennmar, LLC and completed the initial analysis and strategic plan for the venture. As a result, 55 acres on the former Letter Kenny Army facility were purchased and construction of an $80 million processing facility began. The facility generates 60 million gallons of ethanol from regionally-produced corn, employs 35 people in the region and generates $85 million annually. For more information, contact Russ Montgomery at 717.920.8450 or rmontgomery@reddionline.com.

Ethanol Plant Option Expires

7/20/2006 The Sentinel

The clock ran out at midnight Wednesday on a sales agreement for a Franklin County property targeted for a controversial ethanol manufacturing plant.

Penn Mar Ethanol had until yesterday to close a $2.2 million deal on a 55-acre tract in the Cumberland Valley Business Park in Greene Township west of Shippensburg to build a 50-million-gallon-a-year plant to manufacture ethanol from corn.

Wednesday became the final deadline after the executive board of Letterkenny Industrial Development Authority declined Penn Mar's request for another contract extension at a special board meeting Monday.
(Click to read this article more articles on the REDDI website)

According to the REDDI website, J. Daniel Wolf, Penn Mar Ethanol, LLC is a member of REDDI's Agriculture Economic Development Committee (organized 7/2/02).

Information on Shagin & Anstine LLC's website (shaginanstine.com) newsletter from 10/4/2002 - "Penn Mar LLC grew out of the ethanol steering committee spear-headed by REDDI.  REDDI will continue to play a key role as the project manager of the ethanol project, and is providing the services of its Agricultural Economic Development Specialist, Scott Welsh, to Penn Mar LLC."  (see REDDI website for more information)
